Cleaning Gutters is Easy with These DIY Tips
Keeping the gutters clean probably isn’t your favorite job, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Find a sturdy ladder and a strong pair of garden gloves for the job. It’s also helpful to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from damp debris.
An Easier Job with Tools
Keeping your gutters clean will help you save money on expensive repairs down the road. Having the right tools makes the job easier. Here are four things you can use to get the job done.
1. Cleaning Kit for Your Leaf Blower
You can purchase a kit that attaches to your leaf blower and allows you to blow leaves out of the guttering without ever leaving the ground. The pieces extend and curve to access hard-to-reach areas while effectively getting debris out of your gutters.
2. Use a Pressure Washer for Cleaning Aluminum Gutters
If you have aluminum gutters, you can get them clean by using a pressure washer. Just take care not to damage them. Pressure-washing isn’t recommended for vinyl guttering, as it can cause breakage and cracks.
3. Gutter Cleaning Brush
After you’ve removed leaves and twigs, use a brush with stiff nylon bristles to scrub any remaining dirt or debris off the gutters. The bristles will loosen matter that is stuck and help you remove mud and mildew.
4. Use a Hose to Rinse
After cleaning the gutters, use the garden hose to rinse smaller debris out the downspouts. Check to make sure the water is flowing freely and that no clogs are detected.
